Taking a step back

Something is happening, is it a shift in the universe, a cosmic change in the sky, or is it a course correction?  We are living in diverse times filled with unknowns, or at least something is stirring the pot of what we thought were calm waters of tranquil.  The last two years we have undergone a pandemic, a rise in hatred, and an unbelievable amount of demagoguery for individuals whose intellect, can only be gauged to be the level of a middle schooler.  Now, we are watching a state bring war to one of its neighbors with an attempt to show the face of fierce through weapons of destruction.  When the world feels like the globe is inside a bubble that is being shaken up for the amusement of some giant creature and all you want to do is take a step back and draw in a sharp breath, before you find yourself in some dark hole in the universe.  The sandhill cranes come trumpeting into the view and start their early morning ritual of singing.  Just in time.  At least for a minute we can stop, listen, and take in the sound of spring arriving on the farm.

The work ahead is something to look forward to because it will serve two purposes, first to be outside and working off the winter and the second to start producing for the farm.  Digging into the soil or bringing food and water to the new life coming to the farm can be a better distraction than the constant negative bombs of life coming at you faster than the bullet train.  Fortunately, life on the farm is not about having to raise a false flag or write some piece in this blog that could end up being discerned as fake news or consider to be a treasonous writing, as we see journalist in Russian facing under new laws.  Instead, we may hear the protest of sandhill Cranes demanding the other birds to find their own place to land or claim for the summer season.  It is not lost on us that the world is under siege from a debilitating group of people whose sole intent to maintain the status quote of leading the world for their own gain and not the gain of many people. We live in times when those who have never had a voice suddenly have a voice, that voice is often heard through social media, and it has caused a cosmic shift in how the world now reacts.

Spring brings new life and old life finds new adventures as they transition into another year of unexpected assaults or unexpected rainbows.  In a world filled with the yin and the yang it is to be expected to have evil show its face behind a guise of lies.  Nature is a perfect example of this, the wily coyote looking like a lone dog in a field as it draws the family pet towards it, the pack comes out of nowhere and attacks the pet.  The soaring eagle, looking majestic swoops down and suddenly the cute cuddly animal known as your pet is gone.  This is life, sometimes it is filled with an inexhaustible amount of crazy and other times it is as if the world finally corrects it course and has started to rid the world of some of its evil.

We are watching the world as it has come to find itself wanting to support Ukraine and its people but only to know if they bring the fight to Ukraine a nuclear power threatens to set off a horrible scenario of nuclear war.  Time to take a breath, step back and fully understand that we do not have enough time to stand back and take a breath.  People are dying at the cost of what? When does the greater good no longer be the greater good? Our hearts go out to the Ukrainian people and what they have sustained thus far but also to their incredible spirit in the face of evil.  As a family living on a farm, watching the Ukrainian farmer steal the Russian tank was quite humorous, and yet, a reminder of what may happen to that farmer stealing the tank.

All I can say is I am grateful for my wife and our wine walks on the farm.  At least for a hot minute we can step back and take a breath.
